Requests to have prior academic learning recognized (i.e. to receive academic credit from a previous programme of study) must be submitted in writing. Applications for recognition of prior academic learning acquired from a university in Germany must be submitted in the semester following the date of enrolment in the relevant programme of study. If you wish to apply for recognition of academic credits earned while studying abroad, the application must be submitted in the semester immediately following completion of your study abroad period.
Please be aware that recognition of academic credit is not possible if the content of a module or course overlaps (either wholly or in part) with the content of previous assessments or examinations for which you have already earned academic credit.
The details of the application process depend on which programme you are studying:
Please note that recognition of previous academic study concerns academic study undertaken elsewhere and NOT academic credit earned at Saarland University.
Please complete the first page of the form, as without this information we will not be able to process your application.
Enter the modules or courses you would like to have recognized on the second page of the form. A brief explanation of what you need to enter into the various columns is provided at the bottom of page two. If you are unsure of what to enter in a particular column, leave the column empty. In the column headed 'Equivalent module/course' you may suggest a module or course at Saarland University that you think is equivalent to the module or course for which you are seeking recognition. In the case of introductory or core lecture courses you can enter the title of the course (e.g. Programming 1) or, alternatively, you may enter one of the module categories listed in Section 5(2) of the relevant study regulations (e.g. advanced lecture course in computer science, introductory seminar, seminar, freely selectable module, etc.).
Cybersecurity only: Send your completed application form and the supporting documents listed below to your contact at the Examinations Office (cybersicherheit@ps-mint.uni-saarland.de) who will then review your application and get back to you.
Once you have completed the application form, please take it to the member of staff at the Department of Computer Science in Saarbrücken who acts as the representative for the relevant subject area in which you are seeking recognition of academic equivalence. The subject representative will then assess equivalence and document the results on the form. Please also provide materials that will facilitate proper assessment of academic work completed elsewhere, such as a description of the module taken or the lecture materials provided by the course instructor (e.g. course notes, slides or a link to the lecture course web page).
If you are unsure who the representative for your subject area is, take a look in the module catalogue. If you are still uncertain, get in touch with your contact at the Examinations Office.
Applications must be submitted together with all required supporting documentation to the contact person in the Examinations Office who has responsibility for your study programme:
If you have any questions, please send them by email to studium@cs.uni-saarland.de.
