Requests to have prior study and examination achievements recognized must be submitted to the Examination Board responsible for the study programme in which you are currently enrolled. Applications for recognition of study and examination achievements (normally within the last two years) must be submitted in the semester following the date of enrolment in the relevant programme of study. If you wish to apply for recognition of academic credits earned while studying abroad, the application must be submitted in the semester immediately following completion of your study abroad period.
Please be aware that recognition of achievements is not possible if the content and skills of a module or course overlap (either wholly or in part) with the content of previous study or examination achievements for which you have already earned academic credit.
To apply for recognition of study and examination achievements, please contact the study coordination team by email at credittransfer (at) cs.uni-saarland.de. The study coordination team will explain the details of the recognition process to you.
If you want to switch to another subject within the Department of Computer Science, all academic credits, including any failed attempts at examinations or assessments, will be recognized for your newly chosen study programme. It is not possible to apply for the transfer of only some selected academic credit from your previous subject.
Please note that in order to have your achievements rebooked, your application must be submitted to the person in the examinations office with responsibility for your new study programme within one semester of the date you switched subjects. Please provide your Compendium of all Achievements from your previous study programme.
If you plan to join a Master’s programme after graduating from a Bachelor’s programme within the Department of Computer Science, you may transfer up to 30 ECTS credits earned during the Bachelor’s programme, provided that these were not previously used to meet the total credit requirements of the Bachelor's programme (see Section 5(3) of the study regulations for the Master's programme).
Any such transferable academic credit for the Master’s programme should have not been earned more than three years ago.
To be transferable, the ECTS credits you earned from lecture courses and seminars that you attended during your Bachelor’s programme must be formally associated with the Master’s programme or must be at Master’s level. Credits from introductory or basic lectures from Bachelor’s programmes are therefore not transferable.
To receive academic credit from a previous programme of study, you must submit a request for recognition of study and examination achievements. The application must be made in the first semester after you have enrolled in the new degree programme and may only be submitted once.
If you are transferring between study programmes within Saarland University, the Examination Board will decide which study semester you will be in when you join the programme. Normally, the study semester in which you are placed will be determined by the number of academic credits recognized. 30 ECTS credits correspond to one semester.
Send your fully completed application form (download) by email to the person in the examinations office with responsibility for your new study programme as soon as possible after changing programmes. Applications must only be submitted via your student email address.
